The 2023 Annual Summary and Prototype Expert Demonstration Meeting of the National Key Research and Development Program Project "Innovative Development of Specialized Equipment for Laboratory Animals" was successfully held at Qingdao Derno.

On December 8, 2023, the 2023 Annual Project Summary and Expert Demonstration Meeting for the National Key Research and Development Program "Basic Scientific Research Conditions and Major Scientific Instruments and Equipment Development" Special Project "Innovative Development of Laboratory Animal Special Equipment" (Project No.: 2022YFF0711200) was successfully held in Qingdao Derno. More than 40 experts from participating units and collaborating companies, including the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Jilin University, Tsinghua University, the Academy of Military Medical Sciences of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and Qingdao Derno Biomedical Technology Co., Ltd., attended the meeting. The meeting also invited a group of nine top experts in the laboratory animal industry, including Professor Rong Ruizhang (former) of the Beijing Laboratory Animal Management Office, who served as the group leader, and Professor Chu Xiaofeng of Hangzhou Medical College, Professor Wang Jingyu of Dalian Medical University, Researcher Hu Jianhua (former) of the Shanghai Laboratory Animal Research Center, Professor Yin Yanbo of Qingdao Agricultural University, Researcher Tan Shuyi of the Sanya Research Institute of Hainan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Senior Livestock Specialist Hu Minhua of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Research Institute Co., Ltd., Professor Ren Wenzhi of Jilin University, and Researcher Chen Hongyan of Harbin Enwei Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd., to participate in the demonstration.

Sun Changfeng, Chairman of Derno Technology, Zhang Wei, Senior Engineer and Chief Scientist of the Project, Dr. Nan Fulong, Head of Sub-project, and Dong Yonghua, Engineer of the R&D Department, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

At the meeting, project leader Li Changwen, on behalf of team leader Xia Changyou, delivered a speech. He emphasized that unity and cooperation were key to the project's success. He noted the intense competition and how the project's smooth implementation was due to everyone's united efforts. As the first and only approved project under the National Key Research and Development Program in the field of laboratory animal equipment, the project brings together leading universities, research institutes, and enterprises in my country engaged in the research, development, production, and application of laboratory animal equipment, forming a research team with Xia Changyou as the chief scientist. The project's implementation will comprehensively enhance my country's independent innovation capabilities in the research and application of laboratory animal equipment, break through foreign technological blockades, and achieve the localization of various types of laboratory animal equipment.

Dr. Wang Wei gave an overall report on the completion, implementation, funding usage, main problems encountered, and next steps of the research project over the past year. Each sub-project leader gave a detailed report on the progress of their respective sub-project, the main problems encountered in the research, and their next steps.

After listening to the reports from the main project and its sub-projects, the expert panel affirmed the achievements made at each stage of the project, stating that the project had completed its phased targets as it progressed. They also offered constructive suggestions on the existing problems and hoped that the project team would take a holistic approach, transforming existing results into practical applications, making the application demonstration process both researched and demonstrated simultaneously, turning the uncontrollable progress of application demonstrations into a controllable one, establishing a standardized application demonstration technology system, generating leading benefits, and driving high-quality industrial development.

Finally, Chief Expert Chen Hongyan summarized the project, stating that based on the expert group's recommendations, a coordination mechanism for communication and product transformation and application among various projects will be established to complete the project research tasks on time and efficiently, forming an application demonstration system that truly solves real problems.

Finally, under the guidance of Chairman Sun Changfeng, the project team and expert group visited the Qingdao Delno Vaccine Automated Equipment Intelligent Manufacturing Base. They toured the company's exhibition hall, container workshop, laboratory animal equipment workshop, and embryo toxicology automated production line workshop, gaining a detailed understanding of Derno Technology's corporate culture, business scope, and development plans. The visit received high praise from the project team and expert group.
